Letter Rattle

When my daughter was born, I knew I wanted to create something special for her that she could use right away. Of course, she'll get jewelry one day, but I wanted an heirloom that meant something deeply to her and that didn't need to be kept in a special box and only brought out for special occasions. I'd toyed with creating a rattle for my neice when she was born, and while I do still love that original design, it was a bit bulkier and not personalized. In one of those early days hazy showers, I daydreamed of a puffy little serif g - soft and smooth on her gums but with safe little bits she could knob on as her teeth grew in. The MFM Custom Letter Rattles were born. 

I've since made countless custom letter rattles for clients and friends alike, and I'm so pleased to finally offer them on our website. Each letter is hand-carved out of wax (see more of the process here), sliced in half, hollowed out, and then cast into solid sterling silver. In the casting process, the wax is replaced by silver. We fill the hollow letter molds with tiny balls of steel, solder the sides back together, and what emerges is the sweetest, gentlest little pings. They'll become the soundtrack to your early motherhood, as they have for me.
